Installation height, room structure, metal objects, water bodies, fans, and multi-person activities all affect the results.
2. Aqara Presence Sensor FP2: The Most Mature Choice for Home Installation
The Aqara FP2 is one of the easiest options for consumers to buy and install, and it offers the most complete smart-home ecosystem in this group. It uses 60–64GHz millimeter-wave radar, measures 64×64×29.5mm, carries an IPX5 rating, runs on USB-C 5V/1A power, and supports 2.4GHz Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.2.
In standard presence mode, one unit can cover up to about 40㎡, divide the room into 30 zones and 320 grid cells, and track as many as five people. In practice, tracking is more stable with three or fewer.
Installation Limits for Fall Detection
The FP2 must be ceiling-mounted for fall detection. At an installation height of about 2.8m, its fall-detection radius is roughly 2m, forming a circle about 4m across—not the 40㎡ advertised for standard presence detection.
Enabling fall-detection mode disables most zone-positioning and standard presence features. In other words, the FP2 cannot provide 40㎡ multi-person positioning and fall detection at the same time.
Slow slipping or gradually sliding against walls may be difficult to accurately identify, and objects falling quickly or shaking violently may also trigger false alarms. It is more suitable as a family auxiliary care tool and cannot replace medical devices or specialized care systems.

Its main advantage is not class-leading fall detection, but the combination of a low price, polished hardware, a mature app, and a complete smart-home ecosystem.
3. Milesight VS373: A Professional Solution for Hospitals and Senior Care Facilities
Where the Aqara is a consumer device, the VS373 is built for hospitals, nursing homes, and care facilities. It combines 4D 60GHz millimeter-wave radar with AI algorithms and uses 24 transmit and 22 receive channels. The manufacturer reports a fall-detection rate of up to 99% and a false-positive rate below 1%, although those figures come from standardized test conditions.

Beyond falls, the VS373 can detect in-bed and out-of-bed status, occupancy across multiple beds, unusually long stays, room occupancy, and breathing. Its alert workflow can include fall confirmation, an on-site alarm, delayed escalation, and backend notification, closely matching the needs of hospitals and care facilities.
IP65 protection makes it suitable for restrooms, bathrooms, accessible toilets, and senior care facility bathrooms. However, installation requirements are stricter than those for household sensors: the device must be level, and within about 50cm directly below, there should be no large metal objects, fans, sanitary equipment, or large bodies of water, as this may affect accuracy.
At about $565 per unit, it serves a different market from Aqara. It is intended for nursing homes, hospital rooms, care centers, public restrooms, and accessible-housing projects.
4. Vayyar Care: 4D Imaging Radar and a Professional Care Platform
The main difference between Vayyar Care and ordinary human radar is the use of 4D imaging radar. It does not just output manned or unmanned data, but establishes X, Y, Z position and speed information through radar point clouds, thereby analyzing human movement trajectories, posture changes, and complete fall processes.

It can track room occupancy, a person’s position, falls, bed exits, and activity levels, then identify a fall within seconds and notify a phone or computer. Breathing detection is still described as a feature under development.
The manufacturer has also applied algorithms specifically for common false alarm sources such as pets, robot vacuums, fans, quick squatting, and blankets, which is more practical than cheap modules that only provide basic threshold detection.
The hardware costs up to about $310, with backend service fees of up to roughly $13 per month. Actual pricing varies with deployment size and service features. This model fits senior housing, property management, and care facilities in Japan.
6. Seeed Studio MR60FDA2: The Best Choice for DIY and Home Assistant
The MR60FDA2 development kit combines 60GHz millimeter-wave radar with a XIAO ESP32-C6. Its built-in fall-detection algorithm eliminates the need to work from raw radar waveforms. It suits research, personal fall-alarm projects, smart-home integration, and senior-care product prototypes.

Wind blowing on curtains, plant movement, water flow or water films, large areas of metal, mirrors, glass, equipment vibrations, and multiple radar installations too close together can all affect millimeter-wave detection. When it comes to actual products, algorithm tuning and installation environment are just as important as radar hardware.
7. DFRobot C1001: Low-Cost Fall Detection and Vital-Sign Sensing
DFRobot lists the C1001 at about $29; Japanese distributors are roughly $37–$51. Despite the low price, the module includes algorithms for falls, presence, breathing, heart rate, and sleep.
It runs on 5V, draws no more than 100mA, and operates from -20 to 60°C. In the manufacturer’s test with a 2.7m ceiling, the fall-detection zone was a circle about 4m in diameter. The quoted 11m maximum applies to motion detection, not fall detection.
The module provides UART RX/TX and a dedicated fall-state I/O output, making it easy to build a simple chain from fall detection to an I/O change, an ESP32-controlled buzzer, or a remote alert. Breathing and heart-rate readings are for general observation only, not medical diagnosis.
8. Hi-Link LD6002C: A Low-Cost Platform for Mass Production

It is not a high-end 4D multi-person tracking system, but it is a practical basis for finished fall alarms priced around $45 or $59. Its main advantages are low cost, a simple interface, and easy integration at scale.
9. AKM AK5816AIM: A Next-Generation Module Entering Mass Production in 2026
Asahi Kasei Microdevices officially began mass production of the AK5816AIM in July 2026. It is not a ready-to-install alarm, but a 60GHz core module for manufacturers developing next-generation products.
The module area is approximately 23×23mm, internally integrating the AK5816 radar IC and 4×4 array antennas.

Its value is not a fixed fall-detection score, but the ability to produce high-resolution radar data and point clouds for AI models that identify falls, posture, position, activity, and vital signs. Related solutions are already appearing in camera-free senior-care systems.
Lower-cost designs usually rely on 2Tx/2Rx radar and infer that someone is lying down from a drop in height. Newer systems combine 4D point clouds, motion tracks, height, speed, posture, and continued stillness after a fall. Over the next two or three years, 4Tx/4Rx hardware and AI point-cloud algorithms are likely to become central to senior-care radar.
10. Do Not Choose a Product Based on “60 GHz” Alone
Seven Factors That Determine Real-World Fall Detection Performance
1. Height or Elevation Data
With only distance and speed information, it's hard to reliably judge the complete transition from standing to lying down.
2. Point-Cloud Output
Professional products increasingly rely on 3D or 4D point clouds rather than simple motion thresholds.
3. Installation Method and Room Layout
Ceiling mounting is usually the most reliable arrangement because it makes vertical changes in a person’s height easier to observe. Wall-mounted products require more careful planning around furniture and obstructions.
4. Motion Range Is Not Fall Detection Range
A quoted “maximum detection distance” of 11m usually refers to motion sensing, not fall detection. The C1001 can detect motion at up to about 11m, while its official fall-detection test covers a circle about 4m in diameter.
5. Detection of Slow Falls
In reality, elderly people may fall by holding onto a wall and slowly sliding down, which is often harder to recognize than a quick fall. This is the most important blind spot for household products.
6. Multi-Person Support
Many modules in the $15–$74 range still support only one person. For double-occupancy rooms in care facilities, verify multi-person tracking and the ability to distinguish between beds.
