How to Use the 10-Year Calendar
- Use the “Previous Month” and “Next Month” buttons to move one month at a time. The year changes automatically when you move past January or December.
- Jump directly with the year and month menus. The range starts with the current year and extends dynamically through the current year plus ten.
- Select “Today” at any time to return to the current month. Today’s date is highlighted with a subtle blue outline.
- Red labels identify holidays, the observed-date style marks substitute observances when supplied, and muted dates belong to an adjacent month.
How Dates Are Calculated
The page uses the browser’s native Date API to find the weekday on which each month begins and the number of days in that month. The calendar always displays six weeks of seven days, filling its 42 cells with dates from adjacent months when needed.
Leap years follow the Gregorian calendar: a year divisible by 4 is normally a leap year, but a century year must also be divisible by 400. That means February 2028 has 29 days, while February 2100 still has 28.
About U.S. Holiday Data
The calendar engine and holiday data are independent. Dates, weekdays, month navigation, and today highlighting continue to work even if the holiday script does not load. The U.S. module supports exact date overrides, annually recurring dates, and calculated weekday-based holidays.
The module follows the U.S. Office of Personnel Management’s federal holiday schedule, including observed dates when a federal holiday falls on a weekend. To add or revise an annual exception, enter a YYYY-MM-DD key in the independent data file’s dates object; the calendar rendering code does not need to change. Always confirm closures with the relevant federal, state, local, school, or employer calendar.
