About This Tool
Use this tool when you need a PNG version of a JPG photo. It preserves the visible image without cropping or enlarging it. Converting a blurry photo will not make it sharper.
How to Use
- Click to select a JPG image, or drag a .jpg or .jpeg file into the selection area.
- Check the original preview, file size, and dimensions. Make sure the photo has the correct orientation.
- Click “Convert to PNG” and compare the result with the original.
- Click “Download PNG” to save the file. For example, photo.jpeg becomes photo.png.
Supported Formats
- Input: JPG / JPEG (.jpg, .jpeg).
- Output: PNG (.png, image/png).
Conversion Details
- JPEG has no transparency channel. Converting it to PNG does not remove the background or create transparent areas.
- PNG saves the converted pixels losslessly, but cannot recover details already lost to JPEG compression. The resulting file may be much larger.
- The exported image keeps its pixel dimensions in the displayed orientation. The preview is scaled down for display only; it does not reduce the downloaded image’s resolution.
- Converted images generally do not retain the original EXIF, GPS, or other metadata. Keep the original file if you may need its camera information later.
Maximum file size: 100 MiB. Files over 50 MiB trigger a high memory usage notice. Images are limited to 40 million pixels and 16,384 pixels per side. Resize larger images in another image tool first.
Privacy
Images are processed entirely in your browser and are never uploaded to a server.
This tool does not automatically save your selected image or result. Download anything you want to keep before clearing the page or leaving.
FAQ
Does converting JPG to PNG improve quality?
No. Conversion cannot recover quality already lost in the JPEG and does not automatically sharpen or enhance the image.
Why can a PNG be larger than a JPG?
PNG and JPEG use different compression methods. Photos often get larger when saved as PNG. Check the actual file size in the results panel.
Will JPG to PNG preserve EXIF data?
Converted images generally do not retain the original EXIF, GPS, or other metadata. Keep a copy of the original file as well.
Are my images uploaded to a server?
No. Selection, preview, conversion, and download all happen in your browser. Your images are never uploaded to a server.
