Each image can be up to 100 MiB. Files over 50 MiB trigger a high-memory-use notice. Original and output images are limited to 16 megapixels, with each dimension no greater than 16,384 pixels. Some operations have lower limits; resize the image first if prompted.

About This Tool

Pixelate Image combines detail into larger color blocks for a pixel-style effect. Larger blocks usually create a stronger effect; the downloaded image keeps the original pixel dimensions.

How to Use

  1. Choose or drop an image and check its orientation, file size, and pixel dimensions.
  2. Set the block size, choose the output format, and adjust quality or the background color where available.
  3. Click “Apply changes” to compare the original and result, including actual pixel dimensions and file size.
  4. Download when you are satisfied. “Reset settings” restores the default effect; “Clear” removes the files and results.

Settings explained

  • Block size ranges from 1 to 100 pixels, with a default of 1. A 1-pixel block adds no pixelation.
  • Block size uses original image pixels. The same setting looks different on small and large images.

Supported Formats

  • Input: JPG/JPEG, PNG, or static WebP. GIF, animated PNG, and animated WebP are not supported.
  • Output: JPG, PNG, or WebP if supported by your browser. Most edits keep the input format by default; opacity and rounded-corner tools default to PNG.

Image Processing Notes

Changes apply to the full original image and keep its loaded pixel width and height by default. The preview may appear smaller; the downloaded file contains the full processed image.

  • Pixelation changes the image’s actual detail. The download remains at the original dimensions.
  • Transparent areas are also grouped into blocks. PNG and WebP can preserve transparency.
  • The pixelated result alone cannot reliably restore all original detail. Keep the original image.
  • Pixelation does not guarantee that sensitive information is hidden. Check the result and, when necessary, crop out or fully cover that content.
  • Downloads contain the full processed image. Saving again can change file size and compression details, and usually removes original EXIF, GPS, and similar information. Keep your original file.

FAQ

Can original detail be recovered from the pixelated result?

The result alone cannot reliably recover the full original. Pixelation merges detail, so keep the original file for future adjustments.

Do larger blocks create a stronger effect?

Usually. Larger blocks combine more of the image, leaving fewer visible details.

Will the download be a tiny, low-resolution image?

No. The output keeps the original width and height, with the pixelation effect saved into the image at that size.

Will the download keep the original dimensions?

The tool preserves the loaded image’s pixel dimensions. A smaller preview does not make the download smaller. Output format and quality can still affect file size and detail.
