Each image can be up to 100 MiB. Files over 50 MiB trigger a high-memory-use notice. Original and output images are limited to 16 megapixels, with each dimension no greater than 16,384 pixels. Some operations have lower limits; resize the image first if prompted.

About This Tool

Add Border to Image adds a solid-color border to photos, product images, or illustrations. Place it outside the original image or over its inside edges.

How to Use

  1. Choose or drop an image and check its orientation, file size, and pixel dimensions.
  2. Set the border, choose the output format, and adjust quality or the background color where available.
  3. Click “Apply changes” to compare the original and result, including actual pixel dimensions and file size.
  4. Download when you are satisfied. “Reset settings” restores the default effect; “Clear” removes the files and results.

Settings explained

  • Border width is measured in pixels and defaults to 20. The default color is black.
  • An outer border increases output dimensions. An inner border keeps the original dimensions and covers edge content.

Supported Formats

  • Input: JPG/JPEG, PNG, or static WebP. GIF, animated PNG, and animated WebP are not supported.
  • Output: JPG, PNG, or WebP if supported by your browser. Most edits keep the input format by default; opacity and rounded-corner tools default to PNG.

Image Processing Notes

The border becomes part of the downloaded image. An outside border increases dimensions; an inside border keeps dimensions and covers the image edges. Check the final width and height before downloading.

  • A 20-pixel outer border adds 20 pixels on each side. A 1000 × 800 image becomes 1040 × 840.
  • An inner border covers the original edges. A wide border may hide important content, so compare the result.
  • The border color is opaque. Transparent areas in the original image can remain transparent in PNG/WebP output.
  • Downloads contain the full processed image. Saving again can change file size and compression details, and usually removes original EXIF, GPS, and similar information. Keep your original file.

FAQ

Does an outer border change image dimensions?

Yes. Width and height each increase by twice the border width. A 1000 × 800 image with a 20-pixel outer border becomes 1040 × 840.

Does an inner border crop the image?

It keeps the original dimensions and covers the inside edges. Content hidden under the border will not be visible in the result.

What does a border width of 0 mean?

No border is added. Dimensions and content remain unchanged, though saving again can still change file size.

Are my images uploaded to a server?

No. Image loading, adjustments, previews, and downloads all take place in your current browser. Images are not uploaded or sent to an online image processing service.
