Supported Formats

  • Input: BMP (.bmp) that your current browser can read. Not all color depths and compression methods are supported.
  • Output: JPEG (.jpg, image/jpeg).

Conversion Details

  • Quality ranges from 10% to 100%. JPG uses lossy compression, so text and fine lines may show compression artifacts.
  • Any readable transparent areas in the BMP are filled with your selected background color, which defaults to white. JPG output does not retain transparency.
  • Width and height stay the same. Unreadable BMP files produce an error; check that the original file is valid or try opening it in another tool.
  • Converted images generally do not retain the original EXIF, GPS, or other metadata. Keep the original file if you may need its camera information later.

Maximum file size: 100 MiB. Files over 50 MiB trigger a high memory usage notice. Images are limited to 40 million pixels and 16,384 pixels per side. Resize larger images in another image tool first.

FAQ

Why can’t some BMP files be converted?

BMP has different versions, color depths, and compression methods. Your browser may not support them all and cannot repair damaged files.

Does converting BMP to JPG reduce quality?

It can. JPG is a lossy format. Higher quality can reduce visible compression artifacts, but lossless output is not guaranteed.

Why can I choose a background color?

Some BMP files contain transparency. JPG does not support it, so those areas must be filled with your chosen color.

Are my images uploaded to a server?

No. Selection, preview, conversion, and download all happen in your browser. Your images are never uploaded to a server.
