About This Tool
Rotate Image helps correct orientation or create a tilted composition. The output fits the entire rotated image. Empty corners from custom angles can stay transparent or use your JPG background color.
How to Use
- Choose or drop an image and check its orientation, file size, and pixel dimensions.
- Set the rotation, choose the output format, and adjust quality or the background color where available.
- Click “Apply changes” to compare the original and result, including actual pixel dimensions and file size.
- Download when you are satisfied. “Reset settings” restores the default effect; “Clear” removes the files and results.
Settings explained
- Rotation ranges from −360° to 360°. Positive angles rotate clockwise; negative angles rotate counterclockwise.
- Use the preset buttons for 90° clockwise, 90° counterclockwise, or 180°.
Supported Formats
- Input: JPG/JPEG, PNG, or static WebP. GIF, animated PNG, and animated WebP are not supported.
- Output: JPG, PNG, or WebP if supported by your browser. Most edits keep the input format by default; opacity and rounded-corner tools default to PNG.
Image Processing Notes
Rotation applies to the full original image. A 90° or 270° rotation swaps width and height; 180° keeps them unchanged. Other angles adjust the output dimensions as needed to fit the entire rotated image.
- A 90° or 270° rotation swaps width and height: 1920 × 1080 becomes 1080 × 1920. A 180° rotation keeps the original dimensions.
- Other angles expand the output bounds as needed to fit the full image without cropping corners. Final dimensions depend on the original proportions and rotation angle.
- Phone photos are first displayed using their original orientation information, then rotated by your chosen angle.
- PNG and WebP support transparency. JPG blends transparent areas with your chosen background color, which is white by default. The preview’s checkerboard is not included in the download.
- Downloads contain the full processed image. Saving again can change file size and compression details, and usually removes original EXIF, GPS, and similar information. Keep your original file.
Each image can be up to 100 MiB. Files over 50 MiB trigger a high-memory-use notice. Original and output images are limited to 16 megapixels, with each dimension no greater than 16,384 pixels. Some operations have lower limits; resize the image first if prompted.
Privacy
Images are processed entirely in your browser and are never uploaded to a server.
Files are not saved automatically. Download any results you want to keep before clearing or leaving the page, and keep your original file.
FAQ
Does rotating 90° change the dimensions?
It swaps width and height. For example, 1920 × 1080 becomes 1080 × 1920 after a 90° rotation. A 180° rotation keeps 1920 × 1080.
Does rotation reduce image quality?
Saving JPG/WebP again can introduce compression changes, and custom angles may alter edge pixels. PNG avoids additional lossy saving, but you should still inspect the result.
Does photo orientation information affect rotation?
Phone photos are first displayed correctly using EXIF orientation, then rotated as requested. The downloaded image itself contains the final orientation.
Are my images uploaded to a server?
No. Image loading, adjustments, previews, and downloads all take place in your current browser. Images are not uploaded or sent to an online image processing service.
