Bitmap files can be up to 100 MiB; files over 50 MiB trigger a high-memory-use notice. Original and output images are limited to 40 million pixels, with each side no longer than 16,384 pixels. SVG files must use UTF-8 and be no larger than 2 MiB.

About This Tool

Crop Image removes unwanted edges and keeps the part of a picture you choose. The preview helps you position the selection; the result uses the original image after orientation correction. Your selected area keeps its pixel dimensions without being resized or stretched.

How to Use

  1. Choose an image. The original preview on the left initially selects the entire picture.
  2. Drag the selection to move it, or drag its four corners to resize it. On a phone, you can use touch.
  3. You can also enter X, Y, crop width, and crop height. These values use original image pixels and stay in sync with the selection.
  4. Use Reset Crop, Center Crop, or Select Entire Image as needed. Choose an output format, click Crop Image, and download the result.

Supported Formats

  • Input: JPG/JPEG, PNG, static WebP, and BMP images your browser can open, plus SVG files checked for unsafe content. GIF and animated WebP are not supported.
  • Output: PNG, JPG, or WebP if your browser supports it. The original format is used when possible; inputs such as BMP and SVG are saved as PNG when their original format cannot be exported.

Image Processing Notes

  • X and Y are measured from the image’s top-left corner and must be at least 0. Width and height must be at least 1 pixel. The selection always stays inside the original image.
  • Dragging the preview updates the selection in original image pixels. The preview’s display size does not change the downloaded crop’s dimensions.
  • For a 1920×1080 original, a selection at X=100, Y=50 with a width of 800 and height of 600 produces an 800×600 download.
  • Cropping keeps the selected content’s proportions. The result comes from the original image, so a small preview does not reduce its resolution.
  • PNG and WebP can preserve transparency. JPG blends transparent and partially transparent areas with your selected background color, which is white by default. The checkerboard appears only in the preview.
  • Downloaded images usually do not retain the original EXIF, GPS, or other metadata. Phone photos are corrected using their EXIF orientation before dimensions are calculated and the image is processed.

FAQ

What’s the difference between cropping and resizing?

Cropping removes content outside the selection and keeps the selected area’s original pixel dimensions. Resizing changes the dimensions of the whole picture. Use Resize Image when you need to change its size.

Will cropping distort the selected content?

No. Free cropping selects a rectangle without squashing or stretching anything inside it. The output is not automatically resized.

Why is the download sharp even when the preview is small?

The preview is sized to fit the page. Your crop uses the original pixels after orientation correction, so the downloaded image is not a screenshot of the preview.

Are my images uploaded to a server?

No. Opening, previewing, processing, and downloading your image all happen in your current browser. Your image is never uploaded or sent to an online image processing service.
