Each image can be up to 100 MiB. Files over 50 MiB trigger a high-memory-use notice. Original and output images are limited to 16 megapixels, with each dimension no greater than 16,384 pixels. Some operations have lower limits; resize the image first if prompted.

About This Tool

Remove Image Metadata helps reduce the photo information attached to files before sharing. It saves the image again, usually leaving out most common original metadata while preserving the correct display orientation.

How to Use

  1. Choose an image and check that it displays in the correct orientation.
  2. Choose the output format and quality where available. Use PNG or WebP for transparency.
  3. Click “Remove common metadata” and compare orientation, dimensions, format, and file size.
  4. Download the result and inspect attached information as needed. Keep the original for future editing.

Settings explained

  • Choose JPG, PNG, or WebP output. JPG/WebP support quality adjustments; PNG uses lossless saving.
  • Results show the original and processed file sizes, dimensions, and format.

Supported Formats

  • Input: JPG/JPEG, PNG, or static WebP. GIF, animated PNG, and animated WebP are not supported.
  • Output: JPG, PNG, or WebP if supported by your browser. Most edits keep the input format by default; opacity and rounded-corner tools default to PNG.

Image Processing Notes

Changes apply to the full original image and keep its loaded pixel width and height by default. The preview may appear smaller; the downloaded file contains the full processed image.

Information removed

  • Phone JPG photos are first displayed using their original orientation information. That orientation is then saved into the image itself so removing orientation metadata does not turn the photo sideways.
  • Saving again usually removes original EXIF, GPS, camera model, capture date, and common PNG text information. Removal of all custom metadata or format-specific information is not guaranteed.
  • The output may still contain basic format or color information added when saving. Inspect the downloaded file if you need to confirm the removal of particular private fields.
  • Removing metadata is not a compression method. The output may be smaller or larger, and JPG/WebP quality settings can affect image quality.
  • Text, people, addresses, and other information visible in the photo remain in the image. Crop or cover them separately if needed.
  • PNG and WebP support transparency. JPG blends transparent areas with your chosen background color, which is white by default. The preview’s checkerboard is not included in the download.
  • Downloads contain the full processed image. Saving again can change file size and compression details, and usually removes original EXIF, GPS, and similar information. Keep your original file.

FAQ

What is EXIF?

EXIF is information that can accompany an image, such as camera model, capture time, exposure settings, and orientation. Not every image contains it.

Can an image contain a GPS location?

Yes. Some devices or apps save location information with photos. This tool saves images again to remove most common attached information.

Does removing metadata affect image quality?

Saving JPG/WebP again may introduce compression changes. PNG adds no lossy compression, but cannot recover earlier losses. Check the result and keep the original.

Why can removing orientation information turn a photo sideways?

Some photos rely on EXIF orientation to display correctly. Removing it directly can change their appearance. This tool applies the correct orientation first, then saves the image that way.

Is all private information guaranteed to be removed?

No. Removal of every type of custom metadata cannot be guaranteed, and visible private information remains in the photo. Inspect the downloaded file and edit the visible content if you need to remove specific information.
