Image Information and Metadata

Image Metadata Viewer

Browse the information stored in your image, review photo, color, and location details, and copy what you need.

Your images are processed only in your browser and are never uploaded to a server. EXIF may contain location, time, and device information. All information is read locally in your browser and is never uploaded.

About This Tool

Image metadata is information saved with an image file. It may describe the camera, date, location, copyright, color profile, or editing software. This tool brings together the information it can read from your file.

How to Use

  1. Choose or drop in an image and wait for its preview and metadata to load.
  2. Browse the file, image, camera, date, location, exposure, lens, color, software, and copyright sections.
  3. Open the metadata JSON when needed, then copy the information or any GPS coordinates found.
  4. To remove embedded information, use Remove Image Metadata below and check the downloaded result afterward.

Supported Formats

  • PNG, JPG/JPEG, and static WebP images are supported. Choose or drop in one image at a time.
  • Files can be up to 100 MiB, 40 million pixels, and 16384 pixels on either side. Large images need more memory, so choose a size that works well on your device.

Understanding the Results

  • Only fields present in the file and readable by the tool are shown. Camera, location, and date are not inferred from the filename or picture.
  • Locations appear as numeric latitude and longitude. Valid altitude information is also shown when available. The page does not open maps or look up addresses.
  • Metadata JSON omits large binary content, such as thumbnail bytes and large MakerNotes. It is intended for viewing and copying readable information, not as a complete file backup.
  • Missing categories are normal. If some metadata cannot be read, a notice appears and the tool still tries to display the image.

Supported Metadata

  • View recognized EXIF, IPTC, XMP, color and ICC profile information, along with records from JPEG, PNG, and static WebP files. Available fields depend on the format and file.
  • Categories include file, image, camera, date and time, location, exposure, lens, color and profiles, software, author and copyright, pixel density, and other information.
  • GPS coordinates, capture times, and device identifiers can be private. Review the contents before copying. The tool does not automatically save or send this information.

FAQ

What is image metadata?

Metadata is information saved with an image, such as dimensions, camera settings, dates, location, copyright, or color profiles. Not every image includes all of these details.

How are metadata and EXIF different?

Metadata is the general term for information about a file. EXIF is one common format, primarily for camera and capture details. Images may also contain IPTC, XMP, or color profiles.

Can an image contain GPS information?

Yes. If location recording was enabled on the camera or app, a photo may contain coordinates and altitude. Check the actual file to see what is present.

How can I remove image metadata?

Use Remove Image Metadata below to resave the image and remove most common EXIF, GPS, and related records. If a particular field matters to your privacy, check the downloaded file again.

Does this metadata viewer upload my image?

No. Images and metadata are read in your current browser. GPS is shown only as numbers and is not sent to maps or other services.
