Base64 → SVG

Restore SVG content from Base64, inspect the source, and download the original or a filtered copy.

Your SVG stays in your browser and is never uploaded to a server.

About This Tool

Base64 → SVG retrieves an SVG file from encoded text. It checks Base64, UTF-8, and the SVG document structure, then displays the decoded content as text. Recover icons, inspect encoded content, or save a standalone SVG.

How to Use

  1. Paste raw Base64 or a complete Data URI beginning with data:image/svg+xml;base64,.
  2. Click Decode SVG. If the content is not valid SVG, follow the message to check your input.
  3. Read the original decoded text and inspect the filtered static preview.
  4. Use the labeled buttons to download the original SVG or the filtered SVG.

Features

  • Accepts raw Base64 and SVG Base64 Data URIs; rejects other image types and non-SVG documents.
  • Restores UTF-8 text and checks that the document has an SVG root element.
  • Separates the original decoded content from the filtered preview so you can choose the download you need.

Choosing a download version

  • The original SVG keeps all decoded content and may contain scripts, events, or external references. Successful decoding does not make a file trustworthy.
  • The filtered SVG removes unsupported active content and remote resource references. Use it to save the static preview.
  • The original SVG must be no larger than 2 MiB. Base64 text is longer because of encoding overhead. Use UTF-8 SVG data.

SVG Safety

Previews use a filtered static copy. Scripts, click events, animations, external images, fonts, and styles do not run or load. External references, embedded web pages, and unsupported content are removed, so the preview may differ from the original. Documents with a DOCTYPE or custom entities are not supported.

SVG files and UTF-8 source are limited to 2 MiB, 20,000 nodes including elements and text, and 96 nesting levels. Simplify files that are too large or complex before trying again.

Privacy

Your SVG stays in your browser and is never uploaded to a server.

Inputs and results are not saved automatically. Download anything you want to keep before clearing the tool or leaving the page, and keep a copy of your original.

FAQ

Why is my Base64 invalid?

It may be incomplete, include characters outside the Base64 alphabet, or have an incorrect Data URI prefix. Copy the complete content and try again.

Why does decoded content fail the SVG check?

Base64 can encode any data. The decoded content must be UTF-8 XML with an SVG root element. PNG, JPG, and plain text cannot be opened as SVG.

How does the original download differ from the filtered copy?

The original download preserves decoded content. The filtered copy removes unsupported scripts, interaction, and external resources, so it may look different.

Will the decoded SVG run automatically?

No. Original content is displayed only as text. The preview uses a filtered static copy.
