About this tool
Add PDF Page Numbers writes numbers onto selected pages as text. Use it to make reports, reference material, or scanned documents easier to navigate.
How to use it
- Choose a PDF.
- Set the number format, starting number, position, font size, color, and margins.
- Choose all pages or enter a page range.
- Generate and download the PDF, then check that the numbers do not overlap content.
Features
- Supports three formats: 1, Page 1, and Page 1 of 10.
- Choose bottom left, bottom center, bottom right, or top center.
- Numbers are saved in the PDF and remain visible after downloading.
- The total in the number format is the original PDF's total page count, not the number of selected pages.
Page range format
- Pages start at 1. Enter 1, 1,3,5, 1-5, or 1-3,7,10-12. Use all for every page, odd for odd-numbered pages, and even for even-numbered pages.
- Zero, out-of-bounds pages, reversed ranges such as 5-2, letters, and empty entries such as 1,,3 are invalid. Both endpoints of a range are included.
- Extracting, deleting, and rotating ignore duplicate page numbers. Duplicating keeps repeated page numbers and builds the copied block in the order entered.
Numbering and page selection
- The starting number applies to original page 1. Each number equals the starting number plus the original page number minus 1. For example, starting at 1 and selecting only page 3 displays 3.
- Numbering selected pages does not remove other pages or automatically erase existing page numbers.
Limits
- Files over 50 MiB display a memory notice. Each PDF can be up to 200 MiB. Complex content also uses memory, so choose files that suit your device.
- Password-protected and encrypted PDFs are not supported. Use an unencrypted copy you are authorized to access. Damaged or unsupported files may not open.
- Editing a digitally signed PDF may invalidate its signature. Keep the original file.
- Bookmarks, interactive forms, annotations, and other complex features may not be fully preserved. Open the download and check its pages and important content.
Privacy
Your PDF is processed entirely in your browser and is never uploaded to a server.
Images, text, and generated results are also processed only in your current browser. Your input is not saved automatically. Download any results you want to keep before clearing or leaving the page, and keep your original files.
FAQ
What total is used when I number only some pages?
The total page count of the original PDF is used, not the number of pages selected.
Can I change the starting number?
Yes. It applies to original page 1, and subsequent numbers follow the original page positions. Skipped pages still count.
Can I replace or remove existing page numbers?
This tool adds new page numbers without detecting or removing existing ones. Choose a position that avoids overlap.
Are the numbers saved in the file?
Yes. They are written into the downloaded PDF. Modifying a digitally signed file may invalidate the signature.
