About this tool
Select files, compare each original name with its new name, then download renamed copies. Organize photos, documents, and exports without changing the originals on your computer.
How to use
- Select the files you want to organize.
- Set find and replace, prefixes, suffixes, case, or a naming template. Adjust the starting number, increment, and zero padding.
- Review original names, new names, and statuses. Resolve duplicate or empty names.
- Download a single file or a ZIP containing all the new filenames.
Features
- Supports find and replace, prefixes, suffixes, case changes, and extension protection.
- Simple templates support {name}, {ext}, and {n}. They do not run scripts.
- Choose a starting number, increment, and zero padding to create names such as vacation-001.jpg.
- Checks for duplicate names and potential conflicts between names that differ only in case.
Filename rules
- Your browser does not modify the original files on your computer. This tool creates downloadable files with new names.
- Recognizes common compound extensions such as .tar.gz, .tar.bz2, .tar.xz, .user.js, .min.js, .min.css, and .d.ts by default. Other names use the part after the last dot as the extension.
- {name} is the base name, {ext} is the extension, and {n} is the number. Check the preview to avoid adding an extension twice.
- ZIP entries use filenames without folder paths. File contents are preserved without re-encoding.
Limits
- Select up to 1,000 files at a time. When downloading multiple files as a ZIP, their combined original size must not exceed 100 MiB.
- Filenames must not include folder paths. Adjust the rules if a name is too long, empty, or conflicts with another name.
- File contents stay unchanged; only the download name or ZIP entry name changes. Keep your originals and check the preview.
Privacy
All files are processed only in your browser and are never uploaded to a server.
File names, entered text, and results are processed only in your current browser. Your input is not saved automatically. Download any results you want to keep before clearing the tool or leaving the page.
FAQ
Can the browser rename the original files on my computer?
No. This tool creates downloads with new names. Your original files are not renamed, moved, or overwritten.
How do I get the processed files?
Review the original and new names first. Download a single file directly, or download multiple files as a ZIP and extract the renamed copies.
Will the file contents change?
No. Renaming only changes the download name. The original bytes are preserved: images are not re-encoded, and text encoding is not changed.
What should I do about duplicate names?
The tool checks for identical names and names that differ only in case. Adjust your rules to avoid conflicts when saving or extracting the files.
Can I number files automatically?
Yes. For example, use vacation-{n} with a starting value of 1, an increment of 1, and three-digit padding to create vacation-001, vacation-002, and so on, with extensions preserved according to your settings.
