About this tool
Open a local text file and split it between complete lines, saving the results as UTF-8. Size-based splitting uses encoded byte counts to avoid cutting through multibyte characters.
How to use
- Select a text file and confirm its encoding.
- Choose lines per part, the desired number of parts, or an approximate size.
- Review the total line count, number of parts, and each part's name and size. Check for oversized-line notices.
- Download individual parts or a ZIP containing all parts.
Features
- Split by a fixed number of lines per file.
- Distribute complete lines as evenly as possible across a target number of parts.
- Split by approximate UTF-8 size without cutting multibyte characters.
- Results use filenames with padded numbers, such as original-part-001.txt.
Splitting and encoding
- Complete lines are preserved by default. Text is not cut in the middle of a line.
- If one line is larger than the target size, its part may exceed the target. This is expected when complete lines are preserved.
- Output uses UTF-8. Splitting by a target number of parts creates only the parts needed; it does not produce many empty files when there are fewer lines than requested parts.
Limits
- Input files are limited to 50 MiB. A memory notice appears for inputs over 10 MiB.
- Create up to 200 parts and 100 MiB of total output. If the limit is exceeded, increase the size or line count per part.

File names, entered text, and results are processed only in your current browser. Your input is not saved automatically. Download any results you want to keep before clearing the tool or leaving the page.
FAQ
Can I split by line count?
Yes. For example, splitting 10,000 lines into parts of 1,000 lines produces 10 files.
Can I split by file size?
You can split by approximate UTF-8 byte size. Boundaries preserve complete lines, so parts are not guaranteed to be exactly the same size.
Will splitting damage UTF-8 characters?
The tool does not cut through encoded bytes. It decodes the text first, groups complete lines, and saves the results as UTF-8.
What if a line is larger than the target size?
The line stays intact, so its part may exceed the target size. The tool will display a notice.
How do I download all the parts?
Multiple results can be packaged as a ZIP. Filenames use increasing, zero-padded numbers so you can restore the order easily.
