Bitmap files can be up to 100 MiB; files over 50 MiB trigger a high-memory-use notice. Original and output images are limited to 40 million pixels, with each side no longer than 16,384 pixels. SVG files must use UTF-8 and be no larger than 2 MiB.

About This Tool

This tool changes an image’s width while keeping its proportions. Choose the number of horizontal pixels and the height is calculated for you. Use it to give article illustrations or product photos a consistent width.

How to Use

  1. Choose a JPG, PNG, static WebP, BMP, or SVG image with no unsafe content.
  2. Enter a target width as a whole number greater than zero, then check the automatically calculated height.
  3. Check the calculated dimensions and scale, then choose an output format and quality setting where available.
  4. Click Change Width, preview the new image, and download it. Reset Size restores the original width.

Supported Formats

  • Input: JPG/JPEG, PNG, static WebP, and BMP images your browser can open, plus SVG files checked for unsafe content. GIF and animated WebP are not supported.
  • Output: PNG, JPG, or WebP if your browser supports it. The original format is used when possible; inputs such as BMP and SVG are saved as PNG when their original format cannot be exported.

Image Processing Notes

  • Height is calculated from the original proportions, rounded to the nearest pixel, and never smaller than 1 pixel. A 1920×1080 image set to 1000 pixels wide becomes 1000×563.
  • Portrait images work the same way: a 1080×1920 image set to 540 pixels wide becomes 540×960. Rounding to whole pixels may cause a tiny difference in proportions.
  • This tool always keeps the original aspect ratio. To set width and height separately, use Resize Image.
  • Reducing an image removes pixels. Enlarging it creates additional pixels using smoothing, but cannot restore detail missing from the original.
  • PNG and WebP can preserve transparency. JPG blends transparent and partially transparent areas with your selected background color, which is white by default. The checkerboard appears only in the preview.
  • Downloaded images usually do not retain the original EXIF, GPS, or other metadata. Phone photos are corrected using their EXIF orientation before dimensions are calculated and the image is processed.

FAQ

How is the new height calculated?

The height follows the original aspect ratio and is rounded to the nearest whole pixel. For example, a 1920×1080 image resized to 1000 pixels wide becomes 563 pixels tall.

Will the image be stretched?

Both dimensions follow the same proportions. Because pixel dimensions must be whole numbers, rounding can cause a difference of less than one pixel.

Can I make the image wider?

Yes, within the size limits. Enlarging creates more pixels using smoothing, but does not add real detail.

Are my images uploaded to a server?

No. Opening, previewing, processing, and downloading your image all happen in your current browser. Your image is never uploaded or sent to an online image processing service.
