About This Tool
Prepare a widescreen picture by trimming unwanted edges to a 16:9 area. After you choose an image, the largest centered widescreen area is selected automatically. Move it to place your subject where you want.
How to Use
- Choose an image and check the largest centered 16:9 selection.
- Drag the selection or its corners to change its position and size. The aspect ratio stays locked.
- For precise positioning, enter X, Y, and either crop width or height. The other side is calculated automatically.
- Choose an output format, click Crop to 16:9, check the actual dimensions, and download.
Supported Formats
- Input: JPG/JPEG, PNG, static WebP, and BMP images your browser can open, plus SVG files checked for unsafe content. GIF and animated WebP are not supported.
- Output: PNG, JPG, or WebP if your browser supports it. The original format is used when possible; inputs such as BMP and SVG are saved as PNG when their original format cannot be exported.
Image Processing Notes
- If the original is wider than 16:9, the selection keeps its full height. If it is taller, the selection keeps its full width. The largest matching area is centered.
- A 1920×1200 image starts with a 1920×1080 selection at Y=60. A 1920×1080 image can keep the entire picture. A 1080×1920 portrait starts at about 1080×608, vertically centered.
- 16:9 is a ratio, not a single size. 1920×1080, 1280×720, and 800×450 all match. Rounding original pixels can cause a difference of about one pixel.
- The tool crops without resizing to a fixed resolution. Output dimensions come from the selected area of the original image.
- PNG and WebP can preserve transparency. JPG blends transparent and partially transparent areas with your selected background color, which is white by default. The checkerboard appears only in the preview.
- Downloaded images usually do not retain the original EXIF, GPS, or other metadata. Phone photos are corrected using their EXIF orientation before dimensions are calculated and the image is processed.
Bitmap files can be up to 100 MiB; files over 50 MiB trigger a high-memory-use notice. Original and output images are limited to 40 million pixels, with each side no longer than 16,384 pixels. SVG files must use UTF-8 and be no larger than 2 MiB.

FAQ
What does a 16:9 aspect ratio mean?
Width divided by height is 16÷9, or about 1.7778. It is wider than 4:3 and is commonly used for widescreen pictures.
Is 1920×1080 a 16:9 size?
Yes. 1920÷1080 equals 16÷9. 1280×720 and 800×450 also have a 16:9 ratio.
Where is 16:9 commonly used?
For video covers, widescreen presentation backgrounds, and landscape illustrations. Check your destination platform’s required pixel dimensions before using the image.
Will cropping stretch my picture?
No. It selects a 16:9 area from the original and removes the pixels outside it. The content is not distorted, and the output is not automatically resized.
Are my images uploaded to a server?
No. Opening, previewing, processing, and downloading your image all happen in your current browser. Your image is never uploaded or sent to an online image processing service.
