About This Tool
Use 1:1 Image Crop when you need an image with equal width and height. Position a square selection using the preview or exact pixel coordinates, then check the output size for your square layout.
How to Use
- Choose a landscape or portrait image and check the largest centered 1:1 area.
- Move the selection to frame your subject, or drag any corner to change its side length.
- Enter X/Y and one side length; the other side updates automatically. All values use original image pixels.
- Click Crop to 1:1, check that the output width and height are equal, then download for your square layout.
Supported Formats
- Input: JPG/JPEG, PNG, static WebP, and BMP images your browser can open, plus SVG files checked for unsafe content. GIF and animated WebP are not supported.
- Output: PNG, JPG, or WebP if your browser supports it. The original format is used when possible; inputs such as BMP and SVG are saved as PNG when their original format cannot be exported.
Image Processing Notes
- A 1:1 ratio means width and height are equal. Moving or resizing the selection keeps this ratio locked.
- The largest square is limited by the original image’s shorter side. A 1920×1080 image starts with a 1080×1080 area at X=420, Y=0.
- The output size comes from the selected original pixels, not the preview’s display width. For an exact size such as 512×512, use Resize Image after cropping.
- This tool keeps the entire square area. For transparency outside a circle, use Circle Crop.
- PNG and WebP can preserve transparency. JPG blends transparent and partially transparent areas with your selected background color, which is white by default. The checkerboard appears only in the preview.
- Downloaded images usually do not retain the original EXIF, GPS, or other metadata. Phone photos are corrected using their EXIF orientation before dimensions are calculated and the image is processed.
Bitmap files can be up to 100 MiB; files over 50 MiB trigger a high-memory-use notice. Original and output images are limited to 40 million pixels, with each side no longer than 16,384 pixels. SVG files must use UTF-8 and be no larger than 2 MiB.

FAQ
How is 1:1 Image Crop different from Square Crop?
Both produce the same square shape with equal width and height. Choose either tool to position a square selection and crop your original image.
Must a 1:1 image have equal width and height?
Yes. Examples include 300×300, 800×800, and 1080×1080. Changing either side of the selection automatically updates the other.
What is a 1:1 image useful for?
Square social posts, product thumbnails, image grids, and square profile pictures. Choose pixel dimensions that match your intended use.
Are my images uploaded to a server?
No. Opening, previewing, processing, and downloading your image all happen in your current browser. Your image is never uploaded or sent to an online image processing service.
