ICO, Favicon, and App Icon Tools

JPG → ICO

Turn a JPG photo into a square ICO while keeping its proportions and choosing the crop and background you want.

Your images, emoji, and generated icons are processed only in your browser and are never uploaded to a server.

About This Tool

The JPG to ICO converter turns photos, banners, and other rectangular images into icons. Keep the whole picture or crop a square from the center to make the subject easier to recognize at small sizes.

How to Use

  1. Choose or drop in a JPG/JPEG image. PNG and static WebP images also work.
  2. Check the image orientation in the preview, then choose Fit or Center Crop.
  3. Choose a transparent, white, black, or custom background and select the sizes you need.
  4. Generate the ICO, check the small previews and file details, then download it.

Supported Sizes

  • Supported sizes: 16×16, 32×32, 48×48, 64×64, 128×128, and 256×256 pixels.
  • The default selection includes 16×16, 32×32, 48×48, and 256×256. Select at least one size.

Tips for Creating Icons

  • Fit keeps the entire image in proportion and fills unused space with your chosen background. Center Crop takes a square from the middle. Neither option stretches the original image.
  • Padding is measured on each side of the output: 10% padding leaves roughly 80% of the width and height for the image.
  • Small sizes such as 16×16 work best with simple shapes and clear contrast. Complex photos or tiny text may become hard to recognize, so check the actual-size previews.

Supports PNG, JPG/JPEG, and static WebP images. Each file can be up to 100 MiB, with a maximum of 40 million pixels and 16,384 pixels per side. Large images may need more time and memory.

About ICO Files

  • The downloaded ICO can hold multiple sizes. Each image is created at the exact pixel dimensions you selected.
  • JPG images do not support transparency, but the extra space added by Fit mode can be transparent. The background already in the photo is not removed automatically.
  • Phone photos use their saved orientation when it can be read. Check the preview first. If you need further rotation or cropping, use an image editing tool before converting.

Privacy

Your input and results are not saved automatically. Download any icons you want to keep before clearing or leaving the page, and keep your original artwork.

FAQ

Why doesn't a JPG have a transparent background?

JPG does not support transparency. White or other background colors in the photo are actual image pixels and remain when you convert it to ICO.

How does a rectangular JPG become an ICO?

Fit scales the entire image proportionally and adds background space above and below or on the sides. Center Crop takes a square from the middle, then resizes it to the icon dimensions.

Should I choose Fit or Center Crop?

Choose Fit to keep the whole picture. Choose Center Crop to fill the icon with the central subject. Both keep the original proportions.

Can the empty space around my photo be transparent?

Yes. Choose a transparent background to make the padding added by Fit mode transparent. This does not remove the background inside the original photo.

Does JPG to ICO upload my photo to a server?

No. Your selected image and the generated ICO are processed only in your current browser.
