ICO, Favicon, and App Icon Tools

PNG → ICO

Turn a PNG logo or image into an ICO file with your choice of sizes and a transparent background.

Your images, emoji, and generated icons are processed only in your browser and are never uploaded to a server.

About This Tool

The PNG to ICO converter turns an image into an icon file for a website or desktop. A single download can hold several icon sizes, so each display can use a suitable image.

How to Use

  1. Choose or drop in a PNG image. JPG/JPEG and static WebP images also work.
  2. Choose Fit or Center Crop, then set the background and padding as needed.
  3. Select at least one icon size, then click Generate ICO.
  4. Check the original dimensions, selected sizes, image count, and file size, then download the ICO.

Supported Sizes

  • Available sizes: 16×16, 32×32, 48×48, 64×64, 128×128, and 256×256 pixels.
  • The default selection is 16×16, 32×32, 48×48, and 256×256. All selected sizes go into one ICO file.

Tips for Creating Icons

  • Fit keeps the entire image in proportion and fills unused space with your chosen background. Center Crop takes a square from the middle. Neither option stretches the original image.
  • Padding is measured on each side of the output: 10% padding leaves roughly 80% of the width and height for the image.
  • Small sizes such as 16×16 work best with simple shapes and clear contrast. Complex photos or tiny text may become hard to recognize, so check the actual-size previews.

Supports PNG, JPG/JPEG, and static WebP images. Each file can be up to 100 MiB, with a maximum of 40 million pixels and 16,384 pixels per side. Large images may need more time and memory.

About ICO Files

  • ICO is an icon format that can hold several images at different sizes in one file. This tool stores each size as a PNG image inside the ICO, preserving transparency when you choose a transparent background.
  • An image named logo.png is downloaded as logo.ico. Simply changing a file's extension does not convert its format.
  • These ICO files contain PNG images and work with modern browsers and systems that support this type of ICO. If older software cannot open a file, check which ICO types it supports.

Privacy

Your images, emoji, and generated icons are processed only in your browser and are never uploaded to a server.

Your input and results are not saved automatically. Download any icons you want to keep before clearing or leaving the page, and keep your original artwork.

FAQ

How are ICO and PNG different?

A PNG usually contains one image at a fixed size. An ICO can hold several image sizes, allowing the browser or system to choose the best one for display.

Can an ICO contain multiple sizes?

Yes. Select several sizes and the downloaded ICO will contain an image for each one. You do not need a separate ICO download for every size.

Will my PNG's transparent background be preserved?

Choose a transparent background to keep the original transparent areas and any extra space added by Fit mode transparent. Choosing a solid background fills those areas with that color.

Why does some software show a 256×256 ICO as 0 pixels wide or high?

In an ICO file's size information, a value of 0 represents 256 pixels. The actual image is still 256×256; it is not empty.

Are my images uploaded during conversion?

No. Reading the image, resizing it, creating the ICO, and downloading it all happen in your browser.
