ICO, Favicon, and App Icon Tools

App Icon Generator

Prepare Apple, Android, PWA, and general-purpose app icons together, organized by use and ready to download.

Your images are processed only in your browser and are never uploaded to a server.

About This Tool

The app icon generator turns a logo or image into square PNGs for several uses: Apple home screens, common Android densities, PWAs, and larger general-purpose icons.

How to Use

  1. Choose or drop in a PNG, JPG/JPEG, or static WebP image. At least 512×512 is recommended; 1024×1024 or higher is better for a full icon package.
  2. Choose Fit or Center Crop, then set the background color and padding on each side.
  3. Select the sizes you need by use, then generate the icon package.
  4. Check each icon’s actual dimensions, download individual PNGs or the full ZIP, and copy Apple and PWA references if needed.

Supported Formats

  • PNG, JPG/JPEG, and static WebP images are supported. Choose or drop in one image at a time.
  • Files can be up to 100 MiB, 40 million pixels, and 16384 pixels on either side. Large images need more memory, so choose a size that works well on your device.

Understanding the Results

  • Apple includes 180×180 by default; PWA includes 192×192 and 512×512.
  • Android includes 48, 72, 96, 144, and 192 pixels, placed in mdpi, hdpi, xhdpi, xxhdpi, and xxxhdpi folders respectively.
  • General-purpose app icons include 256×256, 512×512, and 1024×1024. Select each group independently; identical sizes may have separate paths for different uses.
  • The ZIP uses app-icons as its root folder, with apple, android, pwa, and generic subfolders. It includes only the selected and generated PNGs.

Icon Backgrounds and Use

  • Fit keeps the entire image in proportion; Center Crop takes a square from the center. Both allow 0%–30% padding on each side.
  • Apple icons use an opaque background. If you select transparency, Apple output uses white instead; Android, PWA, and general-purpose icons can remain transparent.
  • Output is square, without rounded corners added in advance. Platforms may apply their own shapes and display rules, so check how the icons look where you use them.
  • This tool creates ordinary PNG icons, not separate Android Adaptive Icon layers, XML, or a complete app project. For a website favicon.ico, use the Favicon Generator below.
  • Apple HTML and PWA manifest snippets reference only the files generated, using paths within the ZIP’s app-icons folder. Place the files at those locations or adjust the paths to match where you save them.
  • Small images can still generate large icons, but enlargement does not add detail. Check the output before deciding whether to use a sharper source.

FAQ

How do App Icon Generator and Favicon Generator differ?

This tool prepares Apple, Android, PWA, and general-purpose PNG icon packages. Favicon Generator focuses on ICO and small PNG icons for browser tabs and bookmarks; it is linked below.

Why do Apple and Android need different sizes?

Platforms, display locations, and screen densities use different icon sizes. The sizes here are grouped by common use so you can select the PNGs you need.

What are 512×512 and 1024×1024 icons used for?

512×512 is commonly used for PWA icons and larger general-purpose icons. 1024×1024 provides a high-resolution general-purpose image. Check the destination platform’s actual submission or publishing requirements.

Does this tool generate Android Adaptive Icons?

No. It outputs ordinary, composited square PNGs. Adaptive Icons require separate foreground, background, and supporting resources; a single PNG does not replace that structure.

Are my icons uploaded to a server?

No. Reading, resizing, generating PNGs, and creating the ZIP all happen in your current browser. Nothing is sent to another service before downloading.
